Living in the blue zone is possible when you’ve found the perfect place at Airpark Samara, located in Nicoya, Guanacaste, Costa Rica—one of the five official Blue Zones in the world. People in this region enjoy long, healthy lives thanks to a unique combination of natural lifestyle factors, strong community bonds, and a deep connection to nature.
What is a Blue Zone?
A Blue Zone refers to one of five regions in the world where people consistently live longer and healthier lives—often reaching 100 years or more in excellent health. These zones are known for the lifestyle habits that contribute to well-being and longevity:
- Ikaria, Greece – Known for low rates of dementia and chronic disease, thanks to a Mediterranean diet and active lifestyle.
- Okinawa, Japan – Home to the world’s longest-living women, supported by a plant-based diet and strong social networks.
- Sardinia, Italy – A region with many male centenarians, attributed to traditional food and daily physical activity.
- Loma Linda, California, USA – A Seventh-day Adventist community with a plant-based diet and a strong focus on faith and family.
- Nicoya, Costa Rica – Where Airpark Samara is located! Known for its healthy local diet, outdoor lifestyle, strong sense of purpose, and close community ties.

Why is Nicoya a Blue Zone?
The Nicoya Peninsula is one of the healthiest places on Earth. Locals experience exceptional longevity due to a lifestyle deeply rooted in nature, community, and purpose. Nutrition plays a key role — diets are based on fresh fruits, beans, corn, and plant-based proteins. The region also benefits from mineral-rich water, packed with calcium and essential nutrients that support bone health and overall vitality.
But diet is just the beginning. Nicoyans live in tight-knit communities, stay physically active through daily movement, and embrace a “Plan de Vida”—a personal life purpose that brings meaning, motivation, and joy. All these elements work together to support both mental and physical well-being.

Taking Care of Each Other in the Community

Pieter is passionate about horseback riding and plans to bring his horses to the airpark soon. And for those who love both music and aviation, we’re dreaming up Fly-In Dance Parties—fun evenings under the stars at our private airstrip.

Just minutes away, Samara Beach is a haven for those who love to move, relax, and connect with nature. The consistent, gentle waves make it the perfect place to learn surfing, and horseback riding along the beach is a magical way to enjoy the tropical surroundings.
Prefer something more mindful? Yoga and Pilates are offered daily, either in town or from the comfort of your home. You can also walk along the beach, meditate, or join local healing and wellness sessions.
